Tackling problem properties

Cllr Keri Thomas and Nia Griffith MP are putting pressure on Council officers to use the full power of the law to clamp down on landlords who allow unruly tenants to blight communities. Keri explained “It’s quite clear that where there has been a history of trouble, local residents want officers to withhold licences from landlords. That’s exactly what we’re telling officers.”

Stop the flooding and clean up our inlet

E-mail Print PDF

Back in 2007, horrified by the flooding in Nelson Terrace Nia Griffith MP and former Mayor Hubert Hitchman set up the Llanelli Flood Forum. This has led to increased investment by Welsh Water in the area, including work on the pumping station at Cambrian Place, designed to protect homes in the seaside area from flooding. Welcoming the new pumping station, Nia Griffith MP said, “ No-one should have to live with the constant worry that their home might be flooded again. That’s why I am demanding concerted efforts by all the agencies involved to protect people’s homes from flooding – better maintenance, more flood defences and speedier action in an emergency.”

New bus service to Trostre

E-mail Print PDF
As a result of determined lobbying by Seaside Association’s Peter Williams and Cllr Hubert Hitchman, a new bus service from Seaside via Morfa to Trostre will be starting next month. Seaside resident Stephanie Williams said, “A direct bus service will really make a difference. It was ridiculous that people had to go all the way round via the bus station and change buses with all their shopping just to get back from Trostre. This will be a lot easier.”

Residents' Parking in Tyisha

E-mail Print PDF
Cllr. Keri Thomas of TyishaAs a result of lobbying by Nia Griffith MP and Cllr Keri Thomas, Council officers have agreed to analyse residents' responses very carefully, street by street, to make sure that the final plan reflects residents' wishes as closely as possible.

Nia Griffith MP explained "This could mean for example having residents parking in streets like Heol Siloh which are very close to Station Road and under constant pressure for parking, whilst leaving out roads that are a long way from Station Road - we have asked the officers to study all the comments made by residents at the consultation - that's what a meaningful consultation is about - and we want the best possible solution for all concerned"
