Nia Griffith - Open letter about Post Office services in Ponthenri
Ever since a resident came up to me as I walked through Ponthenri and told me that the Post Office was about to close, I have been proud to lead the fight to keep post office services in the community. I mounted a petition that attracted enermous local support and I called a public meeting. As a result of all this pressure, Post Officer Ltd advertised - unsuccessfully as turned out - for someone to take over the Post Office.
I have given then news that post office services will again be available to residents of Ponthenri a qualified welcome. What we shall have in September is post office services for nine hours a week. It will operate from the village hall and under the stewardship of Rod Lowe who runs the Kidwelly Post Office. It is not ideal. I should like to see a full-time Post Officer in Pontheri. However, we have something and we would not have seen this without our relentless campaign to persuade Post Office Ltd to do what they could to provide post office services in Ponthenri.
