At a recent site meeting on the Fforest road it came to light that Swansea City Council had not consulted with Carmarthen County Highways Department about a part of a planning application with conditions to alter the junction at the Black Horse with the introduction of a new roundabout. This design would mean that the current zebra crossing would have to be moved.
From Llanedi Community Council Minutes:
At the Meeting, Council’s concerns as to the risks arising from the obstruction of the footway by parked vehicles, the narrowness of the carriageway, the excessive speed of vehicles and the failure of motorists to observe the rights of pedestrians at the existing zebra crossing had been forcefully expressed as had been the anger of Members at the apparent failure of Swansea City Council to consult with Carmarthenshire County Council upon certain proposed development in Pontarddulais which would have a significant effect upon the volume of traffic in Hendy and Fforest Road in particular.

Any improvements to address road safety and to slow traffic down would be welcomed but if the zebra crossing is to be moved or altered then full consultation over the design needs to be conducted to ensure that safety for pedestrians and the users is also considered.
