Young People deserve better
Nia Griffith is taking action for better facilities for young people in Llanelli. She is calling on the Town Council to use the Selwyn Samuel Centre for youth activities in the summer after the bowls season finishing in May. In response to requests from young people, Nia is also talking to the County Council about setting up an internet café in town.
Parc TrostreAfter repeated calls from Nia Griffith MP, the County’s Highways department has opened up the bus lane at Trostre to taxis. As Lilian Rees, of Le Femm Cabs, explained: "We just could not believe that the bus lane in Trostre was created without including taxis. Everyone knows what the queues at Trostre can be like, and we need this route in." Chief Secretary to the Treasury visits LlanelliLiam Byrne MP, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury meet with Labour Party members in Llanelli on Thursday evening (14th January). At the end of a day that also included talks with Welsh Finance Minister Jane Hutt, Liam Byrne emphasised the need for the devolved nations of the UK to work together to tackle the financial crisis. A range of issues were discussed during the meeting, from the economy to finanace, social policy, widening opportunities for younger people and devolution. Nia Quizzes PM over Climate ChangeAfter the Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen during December, Nia Griffith MP asked the Prime Minister Gordon Brown during the first Prime Minister's Question Time of the year about further action the government will be taking to find solutions to the problems of climate change. Local councillor Steve Lloyd -Janes has joined Nia Griffith MP in congratulating Hendy Post Office on its successful application to the Welsh Assembly’s Post Office Diversification Fund.

Hendy ParkAt the bottom of the Park, work has already started on new gates and restoring the war memorial plaque in the pillar. Recently, the County Council erected a steel set of goal posts in the park for youngsters to play football. Speed bumps for Heol y Parc and safety railings at TalyclunPedestrian safety rails are being installed at Talyclun. The County Council is working in partnership with the community council to put speed bumps along Heol y Parc. |
