In response to County Council plans to re-asses the provision of residential care services in Llanelli, Nia Griffith MP made the following statement:
"What people are worried about is that, in the re-assessment, they may decide to have some made residential and they may try to suggest others could manage just with carers calling in.
But the point is, for these people, they have probably already been through that stage where they managed with carers calling, and to go back after being in a residential setting is going to be difficult.
The families are absolutely distraught at the thought of their relatives being disrupted.
Both of these are in the town centre which means it is easy to get to them.
Not all relatives have transport. They have to rely on buses, and being central gives more opportunity to take the residents out. You can take them to see something or do something because you are close enough.
There is much value added to having something in the centre. Both these are in the centre, which is why we can't understand how there's threats against two of them.
The people are very much part of their communities and, as people, we get older.
There may be other people currently in the community who will need this sort of care, and we know this area of Llanelli probably has a higher proportion of older residents then average.
It just seems a crazy way to go about things."
